Quilting fun for family and friends!

WIP Wednesday

Well I felt so bad for buying backing too early that I pushed and got the quilt top done, sandwiched and started the quilting last night!! Yahoo for guilt.

I am loving this quilt and backing. The pattern is by Mary Fons. I have a serious crush on her and her writings. And also her quilts!
So I have pulled this pile of fabric for the Gypsy Wife Quilt Along. Do not know if I will use it all or none of it as I do not yet have the pattern book. This is going to be so much fun! Cannot wait!
Oh and here is my bee block for simply solids bee. Sorry Bee Mate I think your block will be late.

Fabriholic Fail

I stopped by the fabric store and bought batting, backing and binding for 2 quilts. Now this is allowed under the rules, loosely, but it could have waited. I could not! The tops are not even complete! What was I thinking?

WIP Wednesday - The Ides of January

I made some progress on my quilts this week. It is very exciting to see the progression from a pile of fabric to a quilt. Some are not to that stage so I have tempered my enthusiasum.

Lady of the Lake has her borders on. Just need to hand sew the binding down. This could be a finish for January, I could make it!
Kathy's quilt is in rows.

Beth's quilt has the blocks all made. Just need to trim up the cross blocks. Wee bit of a stall on that as my blocks are not square! There I was merrily sewing along, following the directions, and did not make a test block. Not a great idea.
My Christmas quilt. The top is done, the back is done, just need to sandwich and quilt. Cannot wait. I think this will be a Valentine's Day quilt for me.
It matches my pillows. They were a panel that I sewed up. No zipper, no flap, just two pieces of material with a whip stick closure. Probably short sighted of me but I wanted them done. Love them.
Quilted up the two remaining placemats from last summer and the bindings are on! Just some hand sewing to get these done. Love my hand sewing.
Morgan's quilt is a top. However, it is a top that is too small. It is 70 x 84. I looked on line and queens are 90 x 106 or there abouts. So I either make more blocks, they are 14 inches, or put a border on. Any ideas?
And of course I started a new project. These blocks were windmills but I really wanted hourglass. So I took out the finished blocks and started over. I love it. Probably in hind sight could have got the same effect with the placement of the blocks.

Still need to do my bee blocks for January. That looks like Sunday's project.

First quarter goals 2014

I have a list of quilts I want to finish.

Lady of the Lake. I will do this!
My Christmas Quilt. I am making a Holiday Hustle quilt for me too. It is in Winter's Lane and will match the pillows and table runner in my living room. Mine, however, did not get finished. I did finish three others in time for them to leave with their new owners, so yahoo!

I need to make a quilt for my new granddaughter. She is almost 2 months old and no quilt from Nanny yet. Bad Nanny! She does, however, have a lovely flannel quilt from her mom, so no hurry!

I would like to finish the three quilts from the previous post. Now they are out of their box I would like to get them done.
Aunt Mary
Kathy
And Bethie.
Oh, and the two quilt tops that just need to be sewn together for Morgan
and Amanda. Amanda lives in Scotland and comes to visit once a year, I would love to have it done for her visit. It would save on postage! Thrifty Scots!

It's a Finish!

I made my girls the Holiday Hustle quilts from Sew Lux. They were Aspen Frost by Basic Grey, In From the Cold by Kate Spain and Holiday Frost by Jan Shade Beach.
I just finished the last one. You can't really see it in the photo's but I thought I would try my hand at FMQ.  I bought myself a book "Beginner's Guide to Free-Motion Quilting" by Natalia Bonner. Read through the beginning chapters and decided to dive right in. I did loops and stars. It is waaaay harder than it looks, however, after my third quilt it looks marginally better. Not sure if you put quilt one and quilt three side by side if you could really see any progression in skill.
It is done. Now there is just mine to finish.

Not what I should be doing

My goal for January is to finish the Lady of the Lake. One goal, should be doable, however, something about the word should sends me off track. I was showing my daughter my Jungle Bungle blocks and the next thing I knew.... I have been working on these other projects instead.

Cheesy Churn Dash. I just had to pull out the blocks and have a look at them. Imagine my surprise when I saw they were completed. I have been sewing on the sashing. Still love me a Churn Dash!

Turquoise Garden Maze. I was unsure of the lay out on these. Do I want them scrappy or more of a unit? On hold while I ponder.
Green Simply Woven. Made a few more slices and sewed them together. Ready for some early morning ironing. As I live in an apartment I feel it would be unkind to the neighbours to start sewing at 6:00. I try and choose quieter activities.
My bee block is done and in the mail. Hope she likes the colours. Could have sworn I took a picture?!?

As I was making the Shoo Fly I thought I would make my co worker her Christmas gift. Last year it was coasters so this year a table centre. She likes green.

I am trying a single binding that I read about over the holidays. Seemed like a good idea at the time but may be too fiddly to sew down. I am hoping for a less bulky finish.

A Lovely Year of Finishes -January

I am joining Sew Bitter Sweet and Fiber of All Sorts for A Lovely Year of Finishes. I have my Lady of the Lake to finish. She is almost done! I want her done, NOW! I figure if I have a goal I will not get side tracked with all the things I want to start. I am going to try to stay on target.
The top is almost finished, just needs the final border, a back and quilting. Oh and the binding that I still keep changing my mind on.

So I gather the Lovely Year of Finishes is for one item, keep it small and keep it manageable. But I also really want to finish my quilt for my daughter and Amanda.
Morgan's quilt is ready to go. Just need to sew the squares together.

Amanda's quilt required some addition on the the blocks that I had trimmed to fit the incorrect pattern.

Looking forward to finishing at least 12 projects this year! Love having a January goal! I am linking up to Needle and Thread Thursday.
